Houston Rockets Acquire 15-time All-Star Kevin Durant in Trade with Suns - Houston Sports Live

Mere hours before Game Seven of the NBA Finals, the balance of the Western Conference has turned. According to ESPN NBA Insider Shams Charania, the Houston Rockets have acquired 15-time All-Star Small Forward Kevin Durant in a trade with the Phoenix Suns. The Rockets will be sending back Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks, the No. 10 pick in the 2025 draft and five second-round picks, according to Shams’ report.

This will be Durant’s fifth team in his career, with previous stops in Seattle/Oklahoma City, Golden State, Brooklyn and most recently Phoenix. The 17-year NBA vet returns to the state of Texas for the first time since being a member of the University of Texas Longhorns Men’s Basketball Squad.

In Durant’s career, the NBA 75th team anniversary member averages 27.2 PPG with a 50.2 field goal percentage, 7.0 rebounds and 4.4 assists per game through his career thus far. The news, however, came about while Durant was on-stage at Fanatics Fest as Taylor Rooks was the one to relay the news to the crowd.

Kay Adams got the first interview with the newest Houston Rocket after getting off stage from the panel he was a part of, in which the future hall of famer was all smiles, as he was on-stage when the news broke.

The Suns are getting back a ton of draft capital, including their No. 10 pick in the first round of the 2025 NBA Draft, as well five second round picks that stretch through the 2032 season. But the players going to the Suns include both SG Jalen Green and SF/SG Dillon Brooks.

This move now puts Durant around a good mix of young core and veteran pieces, including Fred VanVleet, recently extended Steven Adams, Jabari Smith, Jr., Alperen Sengun and Amen Thompson to name a few. This move, undoubtedly, makes the Houston Rockets the preferred contender against the Western Conference Champion Oklahoma City Thunder in the Western Conference going into the 2026-2027 season.
